Large chevron LED structures become the visual language of the stage design for Bad Omens’ Do You Feel Love Tour. Designer Paul McAdams uses them throughout the show that shifts from dark, atmospheric passages to moments of light, video, lasers, and pyro. For Pyrotecnico FX, the goal was to simply help energize the show with purposefully executed laser moments.
The Laser Design

Pyrotecnico FX supplied the tour’s complete laser package. The flown set of lasers were integrated directly into the chevron architecture. Custom rigged pairs of lasers in the lower corners of the first three chevrons and added a center unit to the first chevron for a vocal highlight. While keeping the same two laser pairing, on the floor are six units splitting up the three band risers upstage. This position gave the lasers a unique beam angle to be as bright and impactful as possible in arenas.
“We wanted the lasers to function as an architectural extension of the set,” says Tyler, the tour’s laser programmer.
That approach shaped the programming as well as the placement. There isn’t a huge raw laser count and tons of endless power like a lot of shows now days. Which is why it needed to be as tasteful and intentional as possible. Rather than just paint the room with beam effects, Tyler built structure and distinct shapes using multiple zones for each laser and custom de-saturated colors to match the other elements. He worked with McAdams to choose sections where the lasers could bring added power to the music in a cinematic way.
Programming the Lasers

Pangolin’s BEYOND Ultimate was used to program and timecode every laser moment. Tyler created the first version of the show from his home office, using Depence4 to previsualize the chevrons and develop looks around their physical space.
The Laser Gear

The tour uses 13 KVANT Spectrum 25W RGB lasers with Green OPSL: seven flown within the chevrons and six on the floor. Pangolin BEYOND Ultimate provides the programming and timecode control for the full package.
The combination gave Pyrotecnico FX control over where each laser appeared, the shapes and colors it produced, and when it entered the show. Across Bad Omens’ first arena tour, those choices allow the lasers to reinforce the set design and the music without losing their impact.
